Humbling experience

Date: 22nd December 2007, Saturday

Dad calls up an ex-employee of his to enquire about the timings at Dharmastala Manjunatha Temple. This person is originally from Dharmastala and has a distant family out there.

Date: 23rd December 2007, Sunday

We decide to not visit Dharmastala Manjunatha Temple as it was a slightly different route than what we wanted to take. Just when we were about to leave, dad received a call from his ex-employee saying that he had traveled to Dharmastala from all the way from Bangalore just to make sure we do not have any issues visiting the temple as there would be too much crowd. Bowled by his humility and favor, we decided to visit Dharmastala. We even had lunch cooked by him and his uncle as the ladies of the house were out of home. Consider this, we don't even know his parents, forget his uncle & aunt.

These big gestures by these people made me feel so small in front of them. Lots to learn from these selfless people.

Coming back to life..

"The photo is the Pulitzer Prize winning photo taken in 1994 during the Sudan famine. The picture depicts a famine-stricken child crawling towards a United Nations food camp. The vulture is waiting for the child to die so that it can eat it. This picture shocked the whole world. No one knows what happened to the child. The photographer Kevin Carter left the place as soon as the photograph was taken. 3 months later, he committed suicide due to depression."

This may not seem the right way to re-start blogging after a hiatus of about a month. But this is one image that had always stayed in my mind ever since I saw it a couple of years back. It always makes me feel grateful for whatever I have. Just posting it here for remembrance.

Patience...

A virtue worth having. Not having it => regret at leisure :(

Cricket Frenzy

Our nation is amazing. Cricket makes and breaks people, makes and breaks idols.. All it takes is one match for denizens of India to either love or hate (temporarily) cricket. How many vows are made not to watch cricket again, only to be broken the next time India wins a match.

Beginning of the year, when India lost to Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup, M.S.Dhoni's house was stormed by "fans", dis-embellished and he was disgraced by "fans" and media alike.

Today, after the T20 win, the same M.S.Dhoni is made to sit on a pedestal and is making big statements like "Less we think, the better" and "Determination to prove them wrong fired us". If India had lost the match, the same statements would have backfired on the poor guy.

India is a crazy and amazing nation. And cricket lovers are crazier and more amazing. More than the game, I enjoy watching this kind of entertainment around the country caused by cricket.

PS: My fiance is quite a cricket fan. Yesterday, he made me sit and watch the match. However, just to piss him off, I was pretending an Archie comic was more entertaining than the match. I definitely enjoy watching an India Pakistan match, irrespective of whether India wins or looses. :)

Walking by
In search of the horizon
Footsteps,
Emote a long treacherous walk
The horizon seems unreachable
The path seems endless
The journey, pleasurable
The pursuit of yet another horizon continues

Coincidence...

Recently, a friend of mine updated his album on orkut with a picture he had taken a while back. On opening flickr, flickr randomly selects some picture and displays it on the front screen. I just happened to be browsing through flickr the other day, and the moment I opened the flickr webpage, I see the exact same picture but in somebody else's album who is from some other country altogether :)! Woah, I was so surprised !!!! I don't know which one is the original pic, but it is a beautiful pic which I would like to share...

From my friend's album:
